Signs you need a new heater?

Residential houses require a heating system to provide warmth, especially during cold seasons. Nowadays, there are different types of heating systems that are specifically designed for residential dwellings. The heating system can be combined with other cooling equipment to form the overall climate control system referred to as the hvac (heating, ventilation, and cooling). Regardless of the type of heating system used, the main aim is to transfer thermal energy throughout the living space. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the indoor temperatures should not be lower than 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Below are some of the warning signs that you need to replace the heater.

Older Than 15 Years

Consumer Reports indicates that the average life expectancy of the heating system should be between fifteen to eighteen years. On the other hand, according to Energy Star, you should replace the furnace after fifteen years of use. Older systems are likely to break down at any time, and it is, therefore, necessary to find a replacement.

Increased Utility Bills

Although a variety of reasons can cause a sudden surge on the electricity bills, a faulty heater or hvac may be the cause. Heating systems tend to lose efficiency as they age, especially if they are not well maintained. As a result, they consume more energy to provide the same amount of heat. Cumulatively, the extra money you pay can be enough to buy a replacement. You should always compare current energy usage with previous months.

Frequent Repairs

The heating system may require regular maintenance to improve efficiency. However, too many repairs may indicate faultiness in the system. The money spent on replacing parts can be used to purchase a new system. Furthermore, sometimes it is difficult to find replacement parts for older systems.

Strange Noises

Usually, the heating system should run quietly and smoothly. The system may start making noises if some of the parts are faulty. For instance, a squealing sound may indicate a problem with the motor bearings. Also, a rattling noise sound is an indication that the motor or the blower assembly is faulty. Additionally, you should replace the system if it starts turning on and off frequently.

Constant Adjustment on The Thermostat

The thermostat is used to maintain the desired temperatures in a living space. A faulty heating system may cause the thermostat not to work correctly resulting in the fluctuation of temperatures. Therefore, a replacement is necessary.

Yellow Burner Flame Instead of Blue

Normally, the kitchen burner should produce a blue flame. A yellow flame is an indication that there is a presence of carbon monoxide gas in your house. The gas can be fatal to your family and can cause unexplained symptoms such as nausea, headaches and other health implications. Other signs that carbon monoxide may be present in your house include excess moisture on surfaces, rust on metallic pipes, soot around the furnace, etc. It is advisable to seek help immediately if you detect the presence of carbon monoxide in your living space. In conclusion, heating systems are a necessity, especially in colder seasons. If you notice any faultiness, it is prudent to seek professional help. An efficient system will not only save you money but also help to keep your family healthy.
